Subject: Nostradamus predictions, Tax Deadlines and Today's Radio Show!
![]()
Dear Friends, Clients and Associates,
If you're anything like me, you have to be astonished AGAIN with the number of natural disasters and calamities occurring simply here within the borders of the United States, let alone the all over the World. With this increased awareness and concern, just the other day I even got sucked into a History channel special on Nostradamus wondering what his predictions were on all of this. Apparently, 2012 is supposed to be a big deal of some sort.
Anyway, without speaking too much about doomsday calamities, I think all of us can agree that preparing for a potential disaster in our personal and business life is NOT a bad idea. In fact, it is wise and something we should at least think about, if not take some action. Please see the article below on the SBA Disaster Relief office and advice they are giving this year on preparing our business for potential disasters.

Maybe Nostradamus is on to something- How can we Prepare Our Business for Disaster?...This year the Small Business Administration created "A Disaster Planning Guide for Small Business Owners" to help small business owners prepare themselves and their businesses for the unexpected. They focused on 5 types of major disasters: Wildfires, Tornados, Hurricanes, Floods, and Earthquakes.
The main points of the Guide were to:
1. Have a checklist that prepares you for the natural disaster that is most likely to hit you in your geographic area (i.e. evacuation plan, offsite storage of key records and safety measures that could help your office if a disaster strikes).
2. Maintain records on Employees, Customers and Vendors so you could re-start your business quickly if needed.
3. Create a list of all inventory and equipment currently installed and being used by your business. This will certainly be helpful in an insurance claim, but can also help you re-furnish and set-up your business quickly after a disaster.
4. Make sure you review your insurance policies on a regular basis and ensure you have the right type of insurance in effect.
5. Finally, prepare a Supply Kit for the office in the case of any type of emergency, not just a disaster. Similar to an Emergency Kit you may have at home for your family, a Supply Kit would be their for the office staff if you had to leave the office and evacuate with your employees. This may require a small investment, but could help you get your business up and running more quickly after a disaster. Helping your employees in a disaster will help your business tremendously on day two.
If your business has been affected by a natural disaster, the SBA offers a Disaster Assistance Program. To learn more about the Program, the Disaster Planning Guide, or the SBA, visit the disaster relief office here, or call 1-800-659-2955.
THANK YOUR for subscribing the E-Newsletter! Please pass it along to your friends, associates and family, and send them to www.markjkohler.com to sign up for the E-Newsletter themselves or pick up a copy of my new book!! Have a great week!!
